🌱The Miracle of God Seeds

Hello Reader,

The Miracle of God Seeds

Dear reader, if you have felt tired on the inside, unseen, or unheard in this season of life, this post is for you.

Maybe your day is a blur between the job and the drive home, and you cannot remember the last time you caught your breath.

Maybe you are up to your elbows in diapers and a load of laundry that never seems to end.

I've been in those seasons, and my own season right now is caring for my aging parents, so I understand a little of what it is to pour yourself into mundane work that feels under appreciated.

Maybe somewhere in the middle of an ordinary day, the thought slips in.

I'm not doing anything that matters. No one even sees me here. Am I making my mark on the world?

Jesus uses the smallest, most insignificant of things to bring understanding to those hard seasons of life that feel insignificant.

He once told a story about the tiny mustard seed to illustrate a spiritual principle.

Small in the World's Eyes, Large in God's

Jesus taught,

"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches" (Matthew 13:31-32).

In Jesus' day the black mustard seed was a proverb for the smallest of things.

When Jesus wanted to describe the kind of faith that moves mountains, the illustration He used was, "faith the size of a mustard seed" (Matthew 17:20).

Small was His point.

Small Seeds Become Abundant

I've never been to Israel (yet), but from what I read, even today, mustard grows wild across Israel, especially in the Galilee and the Golan.

Come spring, whole fields disappear beneath a blanket of yellow mustard flowers that flourish as abundantly as weeds.

If you pick a dried pod from the plant and split it open, and the tiny seeds fall into your palm.

And the seeds grow in all kinds of terrain including the rocky hillsides and untended roadsides no farmer would call fertile ground.

Even in hard soil, the same tiny seeds rise into a woody, tree-like bush eight to twelve feet tall, sturdy enough to hold birds who come to feed on its seeds and rest in its branches.

Do you see what He is telling us?

Whatever small place you find yourself in today, however rocky or unlikely the ground beneath you feels, it is not small to God.

What looks common and small, or almost nothing in the eyes of everyone around you, in His hands, will grow larger than you could possibly imagine.

This is a spiritual law in the kingdom of God.

The miracle of the God seed is that it grows and reproduces after its kind to become much, much greater than we can possibly imagine.

Every Small Thing You Do Is a Seed

This is how the spiritual kingdom works.

Even the smallest seed you can imagine, once you place it in God's hands for His service, begins to grow.

Hand Him a small act of kindness, or an hour no one else noticed, and He multiplies it. Over time the little becomes much.

The Word of God is a seed you plant in your heart. Your faith is a seed. Every prayer whispered over a sleeping child, every consideration for a coworker, every act of love when no one is watching, drops another seed into the soil of His kingdom.

None of it is wasted. The small thing you do for God is never small to Him. Every one of us can do small things for God and for others, and God uses those small things to impact others in great ways.

As we live by the Spirit and follow where He leads, the Holy Spirit takes those small offerings and does what we cannot do for ourselves.

He shapes our hearts. He forms our character. He builds our faith.

We Choose What Grows In Our Lives

Our lives are like the soil. I came across a simple meme a while ago that stuck in my mind. It says,

"Your mind is a garden; your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds."

What is true of the mind is true of the whole life.

Day after day, season after season, we are planting. What we plant in our minds and in our lives is up to us.

We can sow goodness, kindness, and gratitude into the season we are in.

Or we can sow unforgiveness, stinginess, and suspicion, etc. and reap a harvest we never meant to grow.

Over a Lifetime, They Add Up

We want to grow up and mature spiritually. We want our lives to be formed into the image of Christ. This kind of growth does not grow overnight.

But the wonder of it all is that God treasures every single good seed. Even every tear we shed He holds dear to His heart.

He gathers them, all the small and hidden things of a lifetime, and He works them together to build our faith and grow us strong in His kingdom.

The seeds we forget about under the ground begin to grow and become as large as a bush/tree with room in its branches for others to be refreshed.

We are blessed that we may bless others. Our lives are letters others read to find Christ.

This is what God is growing in all of us, one small and faithful day at a time.

God-Seeds Are Eternal

Friend, you are important. Your days are important. Your life is important.

God sees you exactly where you are, and He knows how hard it is.

He longs to reach down and wrap His love around you, and to water every seed you plant with Living Water.

Seasons never stay the same, and as they change, the seeds we plant keep producing after their own kind.

The love and kindness you show, the faith you keep tending through the dark stretches when trusting God is hard, those are seeds of faith sown in soil that never stops growing.

These are God-seeds that outlast this season, and the next, and every season after. For they are eternal.

So take heart, friend. Whatever small thing is in your hand today, place it in His. He has never once despised a small beginning.

My Prayer for You

Father, I lift up the dear one reading these words right now. You see the season he or she is in and the weight they carry. You see the seeds they plant when no one else is looking.

Water those seeds by Your Spirit and remind them that nothing given to You is ever wasted, and that the smallest seeds sown in faith grow large.

Strengthen them and encourage them in their daily seed sowing.

Let them feel your love and reassure them what they are doing matters a great deal in the kingdom of God.

In Jesus' name, amen.

Hello Reader, Have you ever had God answer you and not realized it was Him? When God Speaks, Do We Recognize It? Samuel was a young boy the first time he heard God speak. He heard the voice clearly enough to respond. But he ran to the wrong person. Three times God spoke, and three times Samuel went to Eli, certain the old priest had called him. Samuel as a boy could hear, yet he did not recognize the Speaker. Even as a boy, Samuel loved God. He served in the temple and slept near the ark of...

With her hips in the air and legs tucked underneath her she...
